A New Look

It has been two weeks since Ollie's surgery. His swelling has gone down and we are beginning to see what his new face will look like. His hair is all ready coming back in and much of his personality is also coming back. Please continue to pray for his parents as we are still dealing with a reset sleep schedule. God is good.

Swelling

We are past the first week of recovery after Ollie's surgery. He has had two follow up visits with his doctors and all if well. His eyes and forehead have swollen (or as Max said, swallowed). Today his doctor had two of the areas drained to avoid risk of infection. We are very pleased with his recovery, but not his sleep schedule! Thanks for all your prayers.

God is Good,

Thanks to all who have been praying for Ollie. He had all of his tubes, wires, drains, and dressings removed today. He has smiled a bunch and may even be released from the hospital today! Praise God! His spirits and ours are great today. Please pray for his brother Max who has not seen Oliver yet, but will today. Thanks again to all that have visited us in the hospital.

Praise God,

Ollie did great through his surgery today. The doctors were all pleased with the operation. One of our doctors specifically thanked us for all of the prayer support that we have enlisted from you all. Mom and Dad were given an extra measure of peace today surrounding this operation. To God be the glory honor and praise. Please continue to pray for a speedy recovery for Ollie. He has quite a few tubes and wires attached to him which cannot be comfortable. Thanks for lifting up our son to our great God.

Surgery in the Morning,

Tonight Oliver had his first haircut! Tomorrow he will have a more thorough second haircut. We arrive at Children's at 6AM and we are expecting an 8:11 AM surgery time. Please pray for this event; for the doctors, nurses, and all the medical staff that will be a part of his operation and the longer recovery. Pray also for Oliver's mom and dad and his brother Max who will be away from his brother for several days. We ask that the peace of God, which is so much bigger than our understanding be abundant tonight, in the morning and throughout this time. Look back here for more information. We should be posting sometime tomorrow night. As God told Gideon, "Go in the strength that you have." Tomorrow we go.

Pre-op appointment May 23, 2012

We spent several hours at Children's Hospital yesterday. Ollie needed to get a hip x-ray on a totally unrelated issue that we are hoping will be nothing. We did get a chance to meet with his surgeon and a nurse to get the details of the surgery for May 29th. All of the major sutures in Ollie's head are fused except the lambdoids (in the back of the head). This Tuesday's surgery will correct the shape of the front of Ollie's head including his eye orbits. The surgery will be 4-5 hours long and we are expecting to have Oliver in the hospital for 4-5 days. There is a possibility that this one surgery could be the only surgery Ollie needs but he may need more depending on how his skull grows. As our doctor said, "This is a dynamic condition," and I am reminded that we have a dynamic God that cares for us. Please say a prayer for Ollie and his family.

Surgery date is now set for May 29th.

Oliver will have surgery May 29th at 8:15 am at Rady's Children's Hospital in San Diego. The surgeons expect the surgery to last 3-5 hours and he will remain in the hospital 3-5 days. This is a relief to get the surgery scheduled but also a time to pray for his doctors and his family. They will be reshaping his eye orbits and his skull which involves removing pieces of the skull and putting them back together. Please pray for our craniofacial plastic surgeon Dr. Cohen, and our Neurosurgeon Dr. Meltzer. We are blessed to have such a gifted surgical team.
